July 9th, 2014

Here is a lot of important info regarding upcoming events!

Country Club meet July 10

The Country Club meet will not include relays, but swimmers may swim a max of 3 individual events. The pool is located at 4101 Wimbleton Dr. E, Mobile AL 36608. Warm-up is at 4:30; meet begins at 5. It’s a new pool so it should be nice! The last time to sign in/out is 11:30 Wed.

Long Distance Meet July 14 Morning

The YMCA meet is rescheduled to Monday, July 14. We will swim the long distance events to record times for the City Meet. Swimmers ages 7-8 will swim the 50 freestyle and the 100 IM. Swimmers ages 9-18 will swim the 100 free and 100 IM. Warm-up is at 7-7:30 a.m. and the meet will begin at 8 a.m. There will be no swim practice on this date. The last time to sign in/out is 11:30 Friday. I realize this meet time may not work for some families. If your child can not attend, we can record a time during practice. We highly encourage swimmers to compete in the meet in order to record the times easier and because they are more likely to swim faster at a meet.

Oakwood July 15

This meet is at home and warm-ups are at 4:30 p.m. The usual dual meet events are included. The deadline to sign is 11:30 on July 14.

Junior Championships

Junior Championships will be Saturday, July 19 at the Chandler YMCA in Mobile. There is no team score at this event and only a certain number of swimmers qualify. Swimmers may be too fast for certain events. The eligibility report will be in a printed binder at the pool this week. I can not send it by e-mail because the computer shows swimmers qualifying for events they should not participate in (such as an 8 year old competing with the 9-10 year olds).

The warm-up times could be anywhere from 8:30-9:10 a.m. We will have a more specific time next week.

City Meet Championships July 25-26

The City meet championships is our Superbowl and is the biggest meet of the year. We have placed second each year the past three years and would like to capture first! The scoring will be divided as follows: 6&under, 7,8,9,10,11,12, 13,14, and 15-18. Therefore, in individual events, an 11 year old female, for example, will only complete with 11 year old females. Relays are huge points for the team and will be in the same age groups as a typical dual meet.

The meet is held at Bishop State, which is indoor and will not be delayed by storms. Swimmers may swim a maximum of 5 individual events. The sign in binder will be at the pool and please sign in ASAP to help save us time and stress!

Warm-up times may change due to entries by teams, but are scheduled for:

Friday AM Session: Warm-up 7:20-7:40 a.m.
Ages 6 & under 25 Fr, 25 Bk; Ages 7-8 25 fr, 25 bk, 100 IM;

Huge win for the Seahorses vs. West Mobile. Way to go team!

June 23, 2014

Good morning Seahorses! The summer is moving along and so are our swimmers! Undefeated! But our biggest test of the season is tomorrow night. We will be facing West Mobile at home. Please be sure your swimmer is signed IN by 11:30 am TODAY! This will be the largest home meet we host this season so we will need all families and fans to really squeeze in tomorrow night to make room for our guests. We still need a few volunteers so be sure to sign up. There is a sign up list at the pool or you can text me.

BTW for those of you with young children, the concession stand is a great place to volunteer - you can bring toys and set your children up with you in the concession stand and take turns with the other worker watching your swimmers swim. (Plus there's a fan in there!) If you want a little exercise, sign up to be the runner; need to sit, sweeps is great for you; want to be in the action, be a timer; love children, clerk of course is calling your name! We have six home meets this year, and while it's sure nice to not have to travel much, it does mean we have to have more volunteers. We will need a total of approximately 270 volunteers just for meets this summer! With approximately 90 families, that means we will need each family to volunteer at a minimum of 3 meets this year. We thank you all so much for volunteering!!!

June 17, 2014

Parents, We still need a few more volunteers for tonight. We need help with concessions and clerk of course 1st and 2nd half. If you can help, send me an email to lakeforestvolunteersATgmail.com

June 16, 2014

I hope everyone had a great time this weekend at Jackson. Believe it or not, we have another meet coming right up on Tuesday. This meet is at home so we will need full volunteer participation. If you can assist with volunteering on Tuesday, please let us know.

We will need volunteers for all positions 1st and 2nd half

June 9, 2014

Hope everyone had a great 1st meet last week! Special thanks to all of the volunteers that helped kick off our first meet!

We are looking for volunteers for both meets for this week Amberly on Thursday and Jackson on Saturday. We will need volunteers for 1st and 2nd half of each meet. Since these are combined meets, the other teams will be bringing volunteers as well. If you can volunteer for either meet, please let us know. We will need volunteers for all positions:

  • timers
  • runners
  • sweeps
  • concessions (Amberly only)
  • clerk of course

Thursday's meet is at home against Amberly. Warm-up is at 4:30 and the meet begins at 5:30. Swimmers will swim a maximum of 3 events and we will enter them in events they are likely to finish best in.

The sign-in/out clipboards for Amberly and Jackson are at the pool. The deadline to sign in for the meet with Amberly is Wed. by 11:30 and the deadline for Jackson's meet is Thursday. at 11:30 (to give them time to make copies of the meet program for the morning meet). If you can not sign in for either meet at the pool, please do so through e-mail.

The meet at Jackson will most likely begin at 10 a.m. with 9:30 a.m. warm-ups. I will confirm that time as soon as I hear back from Jackson. It takes about an hour and a half to get to the Jackson pool. You may pay extra (usually about $5 per person over 2 yrs. of age) to stay after and play.

The pool is within a lake and includes diving boards, slides, a trampoline in the lake, an inflatable mountain in the lake, etc. Swimmers may play after they compete in all of their events. The facility also includes grills and a consessions area. The lake includes a deep area and a shallow area for small children. It is fun for all ages!

Directions to the Jackson pool can be accessed through this link:

Jackson Pool Directions

Results for the Intrasquad have been posted under Swim Meets -> Results in the menu above. If your child's name is not listed, it is most likely that he/she was disqualified in the event. We'll be going over their disqualifications during practice.

June 5, 2014

Warm-up for the Intrasquad meet today is at 5 pm and the meet begins at 5:30 pm. Swimming caps will be available at the pool for $10 if you do not already have one.

See you there!

June 2, 2014

This is a reminder that a parent of each swimmer should attend one of two parent meetings this week. One meeting will be held tomorrow at 5 p.m. and one on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Both meetings are at the Swim and Racquet club pool.

Practice will be held at the Swim and Racquet club beginning tomorrow. The schedule is pasted below.

There'll be no practice today. The swim & racquet pool is being filled with water slowly and it's too close to call to have practice on Monday. Even if it is filled in time, we can not be sure that the pH and chlorine levels will be stable.

We will begin our regular scheduled practices Tuesday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at the Swim & Racquet, not the Ridgewood pool.

Schedule May 20-23

Ages 7 & under 5-6 p.m. Tue,Thur

Ages 8-10 5-6 p.m. Mon,Wed,Fri

Ages 11-up 4-5 p.m. Mon-Fri

Please remember that the team party is Saturday, May 24 from 10 a.m.-2p.m. at Beckwith

We will begin the morning practice schedule Wednesday, May 28.

May 14, 2014

Today's practice group is moved to tomorrow, May 15th. Ages 11-2 will practice 4-5 pm and 10 year-olds from 5-6pm. Both at the Ridgewood Pool.

Practice for ages 6-7 is canceled for Thursday. Ages 13 & up will still practice 4-5:30 on Friday.
